more ranty bullshit

Okay, we've just had our second blizzard in ten days. There's a lot of freaking snow all over the place and driving has been a bit sketchy.
So here's the rant:
Yes, I know, agree with, and live the concept that PEDESTRIANS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY.
This is no problem for me, and I also get that many drivers don't get it or even care.
So I'm drivin' down the street last week and am going just below the speed limit in an icy area on a busy road. I'm in control, until this old guy, about 50 feet down the road makes "eye" contact with me and, knowing he has the right of way, insists on crossing the street, even though no one is behind me.
I'm going 25 mph, probably a bit fast for the conditions, especially if some moron decides to march out in front of my car.
One of the first things I remember learning in driver's ed class (R.I.P.- no schools have that anymore, great) was "know your right of way, but never insist on it."
If two cars get into such a skirmish, the consequences will most likely involve damage to personal property, and hopefully not much more.
If two pedestrians tangle, what- a bruised ego? Better yet, as George Michael said, "...turn a different corner and we never would have met..."
If a car and pedestrian meet because of a misunderstanding-
I know who'll lose that one, every time...
So, hey, buddy! I know you have the right of way, but "only an asshole gets killed for (by) a car." (Bud / Harry Dean Stanton in "Repo Man") Yeah, you too, you pushy, arrogant cyclists!

You Are Not Your Car

So in Boulder (which is a great place to live, don't get me wrong) it would seem that a really huge percentage of the populace is obsessed with their freaking cars. It's like if you don't have a silver A4, you're not even in the damn game. Believe me, I actually can appreciate a really nice car- BMW has taken the beauty of the car to absolutely unbelievable levels. I'd love to have a new truck, a WRX STI, Mateo's new RS4, or the Subie Legacy Sedan which is pretty cool, too.

These are cars- these are not me

(this is a truck, not me)

But listen to me now and believe me later: YOU ARE NOT YOUR CAR! Really. If you think that somehow driving a nicer car is going to make you a better or nicer or more desirable person, you are wrong, and so are the others that perpetuate this fucking myth. If you think a nicer car is your passport to happiness, you're gonna wake up one day and realize that you went down the wrong road. If you think that your badass car gives you the right to drive like an ass because "everyone's in your way", you're a dick, plain & simple, and I hope you don't cause some shitty accident and kill yourself or innocent people just trying to get on with their lives.
